How to use Matterhorn Studio for Google Sheets™

Matterhorn studio is designed to be used in an iterative workflow. We explain how to get recommendations further along this page. Once you've generated recommendations, you should run the recommended experiment, record the result, and copy + paste that row of data into your master data sheet. It's important to record the result and include it in your data, and then generate new recommendations. This allows the algorithm to learn from each recommendation and improve on the next.

5. You will be directed to a Google authentication screen, where the add-on will request some permissions. It's essential that you allow these permissions in order for the add-on to run correctly. Please see our privacy policy for an explanation of the requested permissions, and how we use them. 

Using the Add-on

To begin with the add-on in your data sheet, once installed, in the toolbar, select Extensions. You'll see at the bottom of the Extensions menu, any add-ons you have installed. Select "Matterhorn Studio for Sheets™, and then click "Get started". Allow the add-on to load, you'll see a side-bar appear on the right-hand side of your document.

Setup 

The setup tab is where you'll define your input variables, output variables, set the number of recommendations you want to generate at a time, and start the optimization process.

Advanced

In this tab, you'll find the visualisation feature. This allows you to plot an input variable against a target variable for your analysis. This will also plot the best of your results.

To get started, navigate to the Advanced tab, and select an input variable from the first drop-down menu, then do the same for the output variable in the second drop-down. Then select "Visualize". 

A new sheet will be created called "Best so far". In your data sheet, you'll see two charts. One with the best of your results, and one with your input variable plotted against your target variable. You can use the features of Google Sheets™ to include trend lines etc.
